Ha, those things will come when news eventually seeps out to a few in my family who are PIMI.
so after many years of being pimo, me and the wife have decided to start celebrating our sons' birthdays.
next week is the first birthday party that we’re going to do, our eldest, aged 7.. and although i'm so looking forward to it, i feel slightly guilty and uneasy at the same time.
a step into the unknown.

So we had my son's party yesterday and a great time was had by all. The stars did not fall from the sky and the earth is still spinning on its axis, from what I can tell.
Thanks for your comments.

around 1976 i got the wild idea i'd like to learn greek (for my study of the christian greek scriptures and to 'get to the bottom' of whether i was wasting my time being even a token jehovah's witness.
) i would read the actual text and avoid my denomination's opinion commentaries, you see.. .
i learned the characters in the greek alphabet rather quickly and started reading an interlinear (english/greek) bible aloud - practicing my enunciation.
Great story!
On a similar note, you always knew a bumpy ride was in store when a public speaker whipped his Interlinear out...
my july 4, speech on patriotism.
the last person in my family to serve in the armed forces was my uncle jack during the korean war.
he suffered a skull injury but fully recovered.. .
The Vietnam war was a tragedy, but it helped produce some bloody great music. I have a playlist of Vietnam era songs that I listen to regularly. It's my way of not forgetting, I suppose.
i knew of a ministerial servant that was called out because he used fire crackers on the 4 th of july.
we had to have an emergency meeting as to his qualifications.
i remember imploring the body to not make a big issue over this and it was decided to just “counsel” him about being involved in a patriotic holiday.🤨.
Somebody up thread mentioned Labour Day. I'd always understood this to be an unofficial end of Summer holiday, when the holiday homes are closed up and the cycle of school life returns. What balanced person could object to this?
The connection with organised Labour has long gone, a bit like May Day in the UK.

Are there special Field Ministry arrangements for July 4th and Thanksgiving? Or have they been quietly ditched like the Christmas and New Year's Day arrangements?
And not forgetting Bank Holidays. You were never supposed to have a day off.
Re Thanksgiving: Looking from the outside as I live in the UK, what is the objection to this holiday? Is it considered religious? If you were PIMI, logic would dictate that Jehovah directed events to ensure that the nutjob Pilgrims would survive that first winter, thus setting in motion the chain of events that led to the Constitution and the guarantee of freedom of worship which fostered the setting up of the WTBTS.
I say go ahead and celebrate!

Peter Knowles life story appeared in the Awake sometime in the 70s. One thing that always struck me as odd about it was his claim that nobody in his local congregation knew who he was when he started going to meetings.
Peter Knowles was one of the top footballers in England at the time of his retirement. He played for a big club, yet he claims that nobody in a congregation in the region of that club knew his identity. I find that hard to believe.

If you mean football as in soccer, you're probably referring to Peter Knowles, who gave it all up when he was at his peak in 1969.
Played for Wolverhampton Wanderers and was often compared to George Best.
